How Chiropractic Treatment Cares for Scoliosis | Chiropractor for Scoliosis in Lubbock, TX

Hi everyone, Dr. Greg Marin here from 1-Spine Chiropractic. Today, we’re diving into different types of chiropractic treatment for scoliosis. Scoliosis is a condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine. Ideally, your spine should appear straight when viewed from the front, but scoliosis presents a deviation that can be both uncomfortable and visually apparent.

The Importance of Early Treatment

Early intervention is crucial in managing scoliosis effectively. While some lateral curvature is normal in a healthy spine, such as the lordotic curve in the upper neck and lower back and the kyphotic curve in the mid-back, scoliosis involves more pronounced and often problematic curvatures. Our goal is to restore proper motion and alignment to these areas.

Chiropractic Techniques for Scoliosis

Our treatment strategy for scoliosis involves adjustments focused on the convexity of the curve, aiming to realign the spine and reduce the curvature. These adjustments are gentle, natural, and designed to be pain-free. We also address the concave side to ensure a balanced approach to spinal alignment.

Demonstration of a Scoliosis Adjustment

Let me walk you through a typical adjustment for a patient with scoliosis, which we’ve already evaluated in our patient, Alex. We begin by assessing areas of tension and misalignment along the spine, particularly focusing on areas with curvature. The adjustment process involves specific manipulations at key points along the spine to facilitate better alignment and motion.

  1. Initial Adjustments: We start with the cervical spine, identifying and correcting misalignments to relieve tension.
  2. Thoracic & Lumbar Adjustments: Moving to the thoracic area, we make adjustments to address the core regions affected by the scoliosis curve. For the lumbar spine, particularly when the pelvis shows misalignment, we perform targeted adjustments to correct pelvic rotation and improve overall spinal alignment.

Practical Demonstration

Alex, our patient, helps demonstrate these adjustments. We start with him seated, addressing the convex side of the curve. Alex then transitions to a prone position, where we assess and adjust his lower back and pelvis based on the leg raise test, which helps us identify pelvic imbalances.
