Finding Headache Trigger Points for Instant Relief | Chiropractor for Headaches in Lubbock, TX
Hey, how’s it going? It’s Dr. Greg Marin here at 1-Spine Chiropractic. Today we’re gonna be discussing headaches and some of the options we have at home to get some relief.
Trapezius Muscle
Sometimes headaches are caused from trigger points in the neck muscles, maybe in your forehead or the back of the skull. So I’m gonna show you a few key trigger points to work on to get you some headache relief at home. The first muscle we want to target is the Trapezius muscle. So you want to find that muscle, it goes from your neck into your shoulder, and you want to find and pinch that muscle. On a pain scale, from zero through ten, squeeze it at about a four. Take some nice big breaths in and squeeze that muscle until you feel a little release of it. So this is a trigger point therapy that can be done at home on that Trapezius muscle.
The Occipital Muscles
Now the muscle we need to work on is the Frontalis Occipital. So right in this area here, we have these muscles that wrap around the back of the head to the front. So we want to do the same thing. Push that at about a three or four on the pain scale. Take some big breaths in while you hold that for a few minutes or if 30 seconds is all we need to get that relief. That should take some pressure off the band of muscle that goes around the head. The next one is the Suboccipital muscles. People that are working in front of the computer all day and are looking down at their devices they need a lot of help back here. So what we’re going to do is find the Suboccipital muscles on the base of the skull. Push down for about, you know three or four on the pain scale. Take some big breaths in nice and slow and let that muscle release.
So those are some of the key trigger points that we need to get worked on that might be causing your headaches and migraines.
