How To Be Like A PGA Golfer | Sports Chiropractor in Lubbock, TX

Hey there, it’s Dr. Greg Marin from 1-Spine Chiropractic. At our office, we often see a lot of golfers coming in for issues like golfer’s elbow, back pain, and hip pain. But more than that, they’re seeking an edge to improve their swings and get through the ball more effectively. Today, we’re going to demonstrate some stretches that golfers can incorporate before or after their rounds, as well as before or after practice sessions. These stretches aim to improve range of motion, stability, and importantly, prevent injuries.

Lower Back and Glute Stretches

First up, let’s focus on the lower back and glute muscles. We’ll start with a flexion stretch by leaning forward with the club parallel to the ground, going as low as possible. Hold this position for about 10 to 15 breaths to stretch those muscles effectively. Next, we’ll do an extension stretch by placing the club in the small of your back and slowly extending back as far as possible. Again, hold for 10 to 15 breaths to increase mobility in the back muscles.

Rotation and Upper Back Stretch

Moving on to rotation, we want to rotate slowly and controlled each way, aiming for about 10 to 15 repetitions in each direction. Additionally, we’ll target the upper back and shoulder blade area by placing the club above your shoulders and rotating for enhanced range of motion.

Hip Flexor Stretches

To address potential knee injuries and hip issues, we’ll focus on stretching the hip flexors. Begin by kneeling on one knee and extending the opposite leg out. With the club for support, gently lean forward to stretch the hip flexors. Remember to perform each stretch for about 10 to 15 reps on both sides.

Incorporating these stretches into your routine can significantly improve your range of motion, stability, and help prevent injuries while playing golf. If you have any questions or are currently dealing with an injury, don’t hesitate to give our office a call. We’re here to help with chiropractic adjustments, laser therapies, acupuncture, and more.
